FUN THINGS TO DO IN GEORGIA

Georgia has it all when it comes to landscapes—coastlines, islands, mountains, forests, and more—making it a perfect destination for residents and travelers alike. If you live in Georgia  and are looking for fun new things to do this season, or are visiting the state and want to know about all the must-see attractions the state has to offer, here’s a list of 10 of the top things to do and see here this year.

1. Six Flags Over Georgia, Austell

There may be multiple Six Flags locations around the country, but they aren’t all located in towns as quaint as Austell! If adventure is the name of your game, come try out the thrilling rides, carnival-inspired foods, refreshing water park, and fun games at Six Flags Over Georgia.

2. Historic Banning Mills, Whitesburg

You may not expect to find a Guinness World Record holder in Whitesburg, but there is one, and it’s great! Historic Banning Mills is nestled in Snake Creek Gorge, and that’s where you’ll find Screaming Eagle, which has been dubbed the largest zip line canopy tour in the world. And while you’re here, don’t forget to check out the ghost town, the abandoned paper mill ruins, and the fantastic campsites.

3. Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah

Georgia is home to some old and incredible cemeteries, and Bonaventure Cemetery is one of the most iconic in the area, having been featured in the novel and movie adaptation Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The cemetery is located on a bluff overlooking Wilmington River and is full of haunting statues, beautiful old trees, and remarkable memorials.

4. Anna Ruby Falls, Helen

You’ll have to take a quick and easy half-mile hike through Unicoi State Park to get to this destination, but it’s well worth the short walk to see this amazing twin waterfall. The falls are also part of Chattahoochee National Forest, which is home to three other waterfalls as well, in case you don’t get enough scenic beauty with Anna Ruby Falls.

5. Atlanta Botanical Garden, Atlanta

Atlanta Botanical Garden is so much more than a garden: it’s a full 30 acres of themed gardens, including a Japanese, rose, and children’s gardens, and it also has an orchid center, sculptures, fountains, and even a tropical conservatory.

6. Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island

Jekyll Island is one of the many islands off the coast of Georgia belonging to the state, and this is where you’ll find the breathtaking Driftwood Beach, which is best characterized as a cemetery for trees. It’s a popular destination for weddings, and you may just see the most beautiful sunset you’ve ever witnessed.

7. Fox Theatre, Atlanta

The Fabulous Fox Theatre is now a performing arts center, though it did begin its life as a movie theater back in 1929. Today, you can catch a performance by the Atlanta Ballet, a mini film festival, a concert, or maybe even a touring Broadway production at the theater.

8. Little St. Simons Island

Another of Georgia’s phenomenal islands, Little St. Simons Island is a perfect place for a retreat. The island is privately owned, and you can reserve the entire island for your family vacation or getaway. The cozy all-inclusive lodging is the perfect place to rest your head after a day of exploring the beaches and forests.

9. Augusta Canal Boat Tour, Augusta

A boat tour of the historic Augusta Canal is a novel way to see the city of Augusta, and you’ll get a few interesting history lessons at the same time. The canal is part of the Savannah River, and if you don’t feel like a boat tour, you can walk or bike the path that runs along the canal.

10. Stone Mountain Park, Stone Mountain

Everybody knows about Mount Rushmore, but did you know that Stone Mountain Park in Georgia is home to the world’s largest bas-relief? This enormous 1,686-foot high quartz monzonite dome has been carved with depictions of three Confederate Civil War figures. The park also has rides, camping, and laser shows.

Nothing puts the cold chill on the festive holiday season like a frozen or burst pipe. Frozen pipes are bad enough, but when they burst, the problem worsens and can easily lead to flood damage requiring costly repairs. This all-too-common occurrence affects an estimated 250,000 homes in America each year. And Georgia may be a hot bed for frozen pipes. According to a State Farm report released in 2023, Georgia topped the list of frozen pipe-related losses at $100 million (from August 2002-August 2023.) Plumb Works remains your go-to source for frozen or burst pipe calls in our service area. However, there are some simple tips you can apply to protect pipes in cold weather and help avoid a house call. Before the thermometer dips below freezing – that’s 32 degrees Fahrenheit – do the following:
